Bismuth trioxide is available in alpha and beta forms. α type is yellow monoclinic crystal system, relative density 8.9, melting point 825 ºC, soluble in acid, insoluble in water and alkali. β type is bright yellow to orange, tetragonal crystal system, relative density 8.55, melting point 860 ºC, soluble in acid, insoluble in water. It is easy to be reduced to metal bismuth by hydrogen and hydrocarbons. 
Bismuth trioxide is used to prepare bismuth salt; Used as electronic ceramic powder material, electrolyte material, photoelectric material, high temperature superconducting material, catalyst. Bismuth oxide as an important additive in electronic ceramic powder materials, the purity is generally required to be more than 99.15%, the main application objects are zinc oxide varistor, ceramic capacitor, ferrite magnetic materials three categories; And the glaze rubber compound, medicine, red glass compound and so on.
