Copper sulfate, also known as blue alum, chemical formula CuSO4, anhydrous for white powder, water for blue powder, or because of impure and light gray green, is soluble copper salt. The common form of copper sulfate is its crystal, monohydrate sulfuric acid tetrahydrate copper ([Cu (H2O) 4] SO4·H2O, copper sulfate pentahydrate), a blue solid. Its aqueous solution is blue because of the hydrated copper ions, so anhydrous copper sulfate is often used in the laboratory to test the presence of water. In real life, copper sulfate is often used to refine copper, which can be mixed with hydrated lime to produce pesticide Bordeaux liquid. Copper sulfate is a heavy metal salt, toxic, adult lethal dose of 0.9g/kg. If ingested, should immediately eat or drink a large amount of milk, egg white and other protein-rich foods, or use EDTA calcium sodium salt detoxification. White anhydrous copper sulfate powder appears blue when dropped into water.
